Delores Stevens

Delores Stevens

When Delores Stevens, in 1969, was asked by a friend to fill in at her job while she went on vacation for a few weeks, Delores, friendly and upbeat, said simply, “Why not?” The job was personal assistant/secretary to Rose Kennedy, matriarch of the Kennedy family, and the “few weeks” stretched to thirty years! Her responsibilities ranged from handling Mrs. Kennedy’s correspondence to helping arrange for visiting dignitaries, including Nelson Mandela, Bishop Tutu, and Andy Warhol. She was also involved in the marriages of the Kennedy granddaughters, Maria, Patricia, and Caroline. This position provided unusual insight into the dynamics of the Kennedy family, and left her with great admiration for Rose, the wise matriarch who held the clan together. For Delores, she says after all she’s been through, “I simply feel privileged to have known that great lady, Rose Kennedy.”
