We recently asked our residents if they would be interested in sharing some of their thoughts about living at OceanView. Participation was strictly voluntary and we are honored to share some of their views – unedited – with you.

“My husband and I have nothing but good things to say about OceanView. One of the nicest things is the atmosphere here – and the people. It’s a very friendly and social community. Everyone, from the residents to the staff, is very warm and welcoming and go out of their way to be pleasant and helpful. Our location is a big plus too, with the proximity to Portland being a great advantage. Lloyd and I especially enjoy the University of Southern Maine and the classes offered there through OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute). I love bridge and play not only here at OceanView but have found several duplicate bridge groups only minutes from here in Portland and South Portland.
Lloyd and I enjoy cruising and have found some interesting comparisons to our new life at OceanView…the many wonderful programs, trips, classes etc. that are organized here on campus (more than one could ask for) and the delicious food served in the Main Dining Room from time to time. I wish we had moved here sooner to enjoy all that OceanView and the beautiful surrounding area has to offer – however, we’re making the most of it now that we’re here!” – Evelyn B.

“Intelligent, interesting, pleasant, the residents and staff here have helped me regain much of my enthusiasim and zest for life in my first year here after the loss of my wife. Not only have I met new people from all over the country, but I have reconnected with old friends that I have known over the years in Portland while I worked in television producing “The Dave Astor Show.” It is so easy to be active and involved living here, much more-so than I was able to be living alone in my condo. Now, not only do I have friends to dine with every evening and wonderful programs to enjoy each day in my spare time, but I have a life full of meaning again, not just an existence. I could not be happier to have found OceanView.” – Dave A.

“I love the people here, it’s the best part. There’s such a wealth of knowledge because everyone has led such extraordinary lives. It’s so nice to be able to chat with Jean [our head chef] once a month about the meal plan – it’s very worthwhile to have someone listen to our suggestions. And you know, my life has changed a lot – when you don’t need to cook your meals, you don’t have to do the whole process of shopping and preparing it and you have more time to do what you really want to be doing. I love the music, the activities – There’s so much, I can’t go to everything!” – Jane N.

“I’m happy at OceanView because…we are impressed by the menu for Meals to Go, someone has put a lot of thought in those offerings. We may not need this resource very much now, but we are delighted to have the option. We continue to feel ourselves fortunate to be here at OceanView. Everyone has been particularly caring and helpful – especially the staff.” – Frances M.

“My favorite thing about OceanView is that there are more smiles than frowns, more joyful noises than complaints and the administration seems to have ears that hear. There is never time to be bored, the food is 99% great and I feel younger now than when I came more than a year ago.” – Tommye S.

“Some other places are very formal – beautiful architecture, but it felt like a hotel. I found here we mix really well – the block parties, the community room, the wine and cheese – you find that everyone is friendly. And I didn’t find it like that way at the other places we visited. Everyone here is warm and caring and helpful to new people.”- Jim C.

“My wife and I knew the time would come when we would have to leave our beloved home of more than fifty years. We hoped we could find a more convenient one where we would be able to continue our lifestyle in the greater Portland/Falmouth area. Fortunately, we found OceanView at Falmouth, where the staff, the wonderful programs and our OceanView friends and neighbors have made the transition to our new home a wonderful and comfortable one. We couldn’t have asked for a more ideal situation, right in our own back yard.” - Howard and Stevie R.

“I’m happy here at a OceanView because of the people, the proximity to Portland and also points North where I have interest. I enjoy many of the events and programs at the Lodge, but I’m never pressured to attend. It’s nice to have the dining room for when I want a change.” – Jean W.
