OceanView Ovations

“I remember looking with my daughter for a new home close to my son in Oxford, Maine. OceanView was the first place we saw and after that nothing else measured up.”

~ Jean

A moment to reflect: I realized how lucky I am and how much healthier this was for me. I was among friends, staying active, and keeping up with the world. Yes, this was a good retirement life. Better than being alone on Neal Street, albeit the phone would ring and cards would be displayed on the table. Oh, my friends still call but now they may have to leave messages on my phone! This, yes, this was much better. Not just for me, but for my family’s peace of mind also.

So I take a moment, reflect, give thanks and know how lucky I truly am to be here.” ~ Arlene

“Having lived in Portland in the 1960’s, I considered returning when my daughter relocated here. I found OV and it answered all of my needs….a great location, a strong sense of community, social events and easy access to Portland.

I’d heard about the quality of John Wasileski’s work so I sold my Cape Cod residence and moved back to Maine! I’ve met wonderful new friends and love my cottage…it’s been a very positive move for me!” ~ Judy

“I’m happy here at OceanView because of the people, the proximity to Portland and also points North where I have interest.  I enjoy many of the events and programs at the Lodge, but I’m never pressured to attend.  It’s nice to have the dining room for when I want a change.” ~ Jean

“I have nothing but good things to say about OceanView. One of the nicest things is the atmosphere here – and the people. It’s a very friendly and social community. Everyone, from the residents to the staff, is very warm and welcoming and go out of their way to be pleasant and helpful.

The location is a big plus too, with the proximity to Portland being a great advantage. I especially enjoy the University of Southern Maine and the classes offered there through OLLI (Osher Lifelong Learning  Institute). I love bridge and play not only here at OceanView but have found several duplicate bridge groups only minutes from here in Portland and South Portland.

I enjoy cruising and have found some interesting comparisons to my new life at OceanView…the many wonderful programs, trips, classes etc. that are organized here on campus (more than one could ask for) and the delicious food served in the Dining Room.

I wish I had moved here sooner to enjoy all that OceanView and the beautiful surrounding area has to offer – however, I’m making the most of it now that I’m here!” ~ Evelyn

Priscilla“In my apartment where I was living before – I didn’t have all the people around like we do here. I had a lot of friends, but not as close contact as here…it’s nice to having someone to sit with and eat with.

“There are so many activities you could be busy every hour of the day. I’ve also gone to more movies than I’ve seen my whole life!

I’ve been going to Bible Fellowship, exercise, Tai Chi , Women’s Book Group – I just pick and choose. And the concerts and musical programs here are wonderful – and they’re right here. You don’t have to go anywhere but out your door and down the hall.” ~ Priscilla

Mary“When I was trying to decide what to do, Gloria looked at me and said, ‘Mary, You belong here.’ And she was absolutely right. I had my cottage built, and in the meantime, I came to all the events and made friends.

One day I had no electric, so I called the main office. Within a half hour someone was here; they came in – one, two, three – they figured out it was the breaker, and were on their way. I didn’t know what to do or how to fix it, and didn’t want to go outside.

And am I glad I don’t have to clean anymore? I feel like a princess!” ~ Mary
