Blueberry Commons Preparation Benefits Habitat for Humanity

habitat1

OceanView invited Habitat for Humanity to our campus to strip all usable materials from ten cottages that will be taken down to make room for the new Blueberry Commons expansion. Kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, sinks, doors and 80+ windows were taken by a team of Habitat volunteers to help with their construction programs.

A water boiler and all baseboard heaters were also offered to the Falmouth Heritage Museum, which currently does not have heat.

Built in the mid-80’s, the cottages were part of the original OceanView campus but will be torn down to allow for the groundbreaking of Blueberry Commons. A 36-apartment expansion, Blueberry Commons will consist of three inter-connected buildings, all attached via temperature-controlled connectors to the existing Lodge buildings, allowing indoor access in all weather to the Screening Room, Fitness Studio, Game Room, Main Dining Room, Gazebo Grille Cafe, Library and other programs and amenties.

The Blueberry Commons addition will feature luxury corner apartments between 1,000 and 1,800 square feet with gas fireplaces, balconies, customized decor and underground parking. The new development will also include a large, 150-person Commons Room and a third-floor glass Skywalk for all residents to enjoy the spectacular views of Casco Bay to the south and east!

OceanView Partners With Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce to Help Hurricane Sandy Victims

hurricane

We have all seen images of the overwhelming destruction caused by Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey. The catastrophic effects of the storm have decimated towns and cities, and left families homeless, powerless and without basic necessities.

OceanView at Falmouth is partnering with the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce to make a difference in the areas impacted by the damage. We will be collecting donated items within our community, and Allen & Coles Moving Systems has graciously offered to collect donations, and transport the items to regions in need.

Suggested donations include: non-perishable food items, bottled water, first aid kits, coats and clothing in good condition, gloves and hats, new underwear and socks, personal hygiene products, blankets, towels, diapers, work gloves, garbage bags, bubble wrap, cleaning supplies, pet food, etc. Items such as furniture and appliances are not suggested, and opened chemicals and liquids will not be accepted.

You may drop off your donations to OceanView at Falmouth, Main Lodge, 20 Blueberry Lane, Falmouth by Thursday, November 15th or directly to Allen & Coles Moving Systems, 75 Pinetree Industrial Parkway in Portland by Friday, November 16th between the hours of 8:00am and 3:30pm or on Saturday the 17th from 8:00am to 12:00pm. Call 207-772-2811 or email chamber@portlandregion.com, with any questions.

We thank you for your generosity.
Let’s join together to make a difference.

On Friday, October 26th, OceanView went all out, as we do each year, in celebration of our anniversary! With decorations in purple, pink, orange, turquoise and gold, our Main Dining Room, Community Room and Gazebo Grille took on an Arabian Nights ambiance, complete with belly dancers and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Arabian1

Serving over 100 dinners, our chefs truly outdid themselves with the delicious fare and gorgeous presentations.

Arabian2

With an early and a late seating, and two performances, everyone had a chance to take in the sights, tastes and sounds of an Arabian Night!

Carport

Expanded Parking Area & Upgraded Carport Nears Completion

Carport

Our latest project has been to update and expand the parking area and carport spaces at the Main Lodge. Not only will it provide additional parking for residents, their guests and visitors, but it will also create a more efficient traffic flow and add additional appeal to our  campus and main entrance with this brand new structure.

The parking area will feature naturalized boulder walls, attractive landscaping with native Maine plantings from a local nursery, residential-style fencing, and specialized curbing and drainage. The upgraded carports will offer fully automatic doors, a carriage-style roof, additional room and improved lighting.

As usual with all OceanView projects, the preservation of mature trees remained a high priority throughout the construction process. Extra special attention was also paid to ensure the visual appeal from Blueberry Lane, as well as minimizing the disruption of existing parking for as short a period as possible. The new carport spaces and parking area will be completed very soon!

Blueberry Commons… Views From Hi-Lift

Hi-Lift1

On Wednesday, Aug. 29th, OceanView owner John Wasileski hired a hi-lift (cherrypicker) to come to our campus to allow the development staff for Blueberry Commons to see, first-hand, the potential views from the new buildings. Groups of 6 to 10 were lifted 4 stories high in several locations to get a sense of the views from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors of Blueberry Commons, our new luxury apartments, now being reserved for late 2013/early 2014 occupancy.

Rick Licht, Site Engineer, provided maps, compass points and landmark maps to orient those who went up in the hi-lift. The views, especially from the 4th floor, were spectacular! Looking out over the roof of the Main Lodge, all of Portland, Casco Bay, the lighthouses and islands were visible in a panoramic, sweeping vista. It was a beautiful day, and well-worth the jitters about the heights for everyone.
