Blueberry Commons Construction Update

Blueberry Commons

Blueberry Commons is right on schedule for completion this spring! Building #14, our 3-story building at Blueberry Commons, as seen from two different sides, now has a roof! Windows will be going in this week and the building will be ready for interior work shortly!

Blueberry Commons

In this photo, you can see Building 14 to the left and Hilltop Lodge to the right. The temperature controlled, atrium style connector will pass from one to the other, attaching these two buildings, so residents can go from their home to any fitness classes, movies or dining options without going outside! The connector will also project straight back to Building 16 in the distance.

Our rooftop views give a good feeling for the overall progress of Building 14 to the left and Building 16 to the right through the trees. Building 12 is in the center background and will be the last of the three to be completed in May, 2014. We can’t wait!

Blueberry Commons Construction Update

BC Construction1

Things are truly taking shape at the Blueberry Commons building site, as evidenced by this incredible aerial photograph taken a few weeks ago! It shows the Main Lodge to the far right with Hilltop Lodge in the center and the outline of the foundation of Blueberry Commons Building #14 at the bottom left. Buildings #12 and #16 will fill the space above that building and attach to it and to the end of Hilltop Lodge.

BC Construction2

Due to the popularity of this overall addition to the OceanView campus and our current 70% pre-sales to date, all three of these energy efficient, interconnected apartment buildings are now underway. With ledge on the site, blasting was used to prepare the site for the foundation of the large underground parking garage that will stretch beneath Buildings #12 and #16.

Soon the walls will start to appear! We have a great look-out deck for residents and their guests to get a good view of the progress, where they can sit and enjoy the construction from a safe and comfortable perch!

A 36-apartment expansion, Blueberry Commons is the first stage of the OceanView Falmouth School Redevelopment Project and will serve as the gateway to this newly acquired 20-acre school property. Access to this property from the existing OceanView campus is via a new road to be called Marion Way, after John Wasileski’s late mother. A rudimentary outline of this future road will serve as the carefully planned construction access for Landry/French to the Blueberry Commons building site to minimize the disruption to the residents of OceanView and the existing 60-acre campus.

BC Groundbreaking Marion Way

Blueberry Commons will consist of three environmentally efficient, inter-connected buildings, attached via temperature-controlled connectors to the existing Lodge buildings. Solar energy will be used for hot water. The atrium style connectors will allow Blueberry Commons residents access in any weather to programs in a variety of settings throughout the existing Lodge buildings including:  Screening Room, Fitness Studio, Game Room, Library  etc., along with meal options in the Main Dining Room and Gazebo Grille Café.

BC Groundbreaking Hardhats

The Blueberry Commons apartments will all offer spacious corner locations and floor plans ranging from 1,072 and 1,807 square feet with gas fireplaces, balconies, customized decor and underground parking. Also part of the addition will be a large, new 150-person capacity “Commons Room” for lectures, concerts, and social gatherings, as well as a third floor community “Skywalk” for all residents to enjoy the spectacular views of Casco Bay to the south and east.

Blueberry Commons 1st Floor

Continuing its place as a proud leader in the retirement industry in Maine, OceanView at Falmouth is pleased to announce its successful growth, expanding with 70% of the total Blueberry Commons apartments under reservation prior to construction.

Blueberry Commons Preparation Benefits Habitat for Humanity

habitat1

OceanView invited Habitat for Humanity to our campus to strip all usable materials from ten cottages that will be taken down to make room for the new Blueberry Commons expansion. Kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, sinks, doors and 80+ windows were taken by a team of Habitat volunteers to help with their construction programs.

A water boiler and all baseboard heaters were also offered to the Falmouth Heritage Museum, which currently does not have heat.

Built in the mid-80’s, the cottages were part of the original OceanView campus but will be torn down to allow for the groundbreaking of Blueberry Commons. A 36-apartment expansion, Blueberry Commons will consist of three inter-connected buildings, all attached via temperature-controlled connectors to the existing Lodge buildings, allowing indoor access in all weather to the Screening Room, Fitness Studio, Game Room, Main Dining Room, Gazebo Grille Cafe, Library and other programs and amenties.

The Blueberry Commons addition will feature luxury corner apartments between 1,000 and 1,800 square feet with gas fireplaces, balconies, customized decor and underground parking. The new development will also include a large, 150-person Commons Room and a third-floor glass Skywalk for all residents to enjoy the spectacular views of Casco Bay to the south and east!
